Director and photographer Matt Baron was born and raised in New York City, where he developed an early sensitivity to imagery, music and human connection. Immersed in a richly creative environment from a young age, he honed a discerning eye and a clear, instinctive sense of taste. Deeply curious and culturally fluent – with interests spanning music, cinema and sport – his practice is informed by a broad and restless appetite for experience.
Matt got his start working as a cinematographer and editor for acclaimed high-fashion photographers. Soon after, clients began approaching him to direct.
Known for creating emotionally resonant, visually driven films, Matt has collaborated with a wide range of cultural and commercial partners including Apple, Range Rover, Kendrick Lamar, Vogue, Louis Vuitton and Madonna. His work has been recognized with a Grand Clio, two Cannes Lions, and an MTV VMA nomination. Moving fluidly between advertising, editorial, documentary and music video formats, Matt brings a distinctive point of view to an ever-expanding body of work.
L.A.-based today, Matt enjoyed summers growing up between France (Corsica) where his father is from, and New York. He speaks three languages – English, French and Italian. In addition to bringing an expansive cultural perspective to all of his work, he has a chameleon-like ability to talk with people from all walks of life and work comfortably in any genre of filmmaking.
More importantly, Matt loves his three kids, his Sicilian wife and his old French bulldog. When not working or with family, you can usually find him on a tennis court, or playing his guitar.
